Caring for your smile often consists of making sure you are using the right tools. If your tools are functioning effectively, or you’re not using them as much as possible, plaque buildup or other harmful acids can arise in your mouth and can contribute to dental erosion and other oral health ailments. To combat this, brush your teeth twice every day and be sure to floss every day with an interdental cleaner such as dental floss.

Effective dental floss treatments are essential for optimum oral health. Dental floss is needed to clean between teeth in areas that brushing alone cannot reach. Furthermore, if you struggle using traditional threaded floss, consider an alternative interdental cleaner as a substitute. One highly effective cleaning utensil to consider is a water flosser, which uses a beam of water to rinse out debris between teeth.

In order to make sure you are flossing effectively, try to aim for 2 to 3 minutes each session. Always make sure that your cleaning between every single tooth and behind your teeth in your back row to make sure your mouth is completely free of any debris between teeth. In addition, make sure that you’re taking your time and using soft strokes to avoid dental abrasion or damaging your gums in any way. If you are using threaded floss, try to use a strand that is roughly 18” in length so you can use a different section between each tooth. This will help to prevent contamination. Once you’re finished, throw out the strand and use a new one for each subsequent flossing session.
