Patient Safety

Safety and Security for Smiles Across Houston

Your dental team at Chet B. Hawkins, DDS has always been there for you and your smile, and that hasn’t changed with COVID-19. We’ll continue to work tirelessly to make sure your health and safety are the top priority from the moment you first step foot in our Houston dental office. Rest assured and take comfort in knowing that we’re going out of our way to take every precaution necessary with your family’s safety, security, and protection at the heart.

Please note that due to COVID-19, we’re now asking that all patients complete a pre-screening phone interview when we call to confirm your dental appointment the day before your scheduled visit.

Every Patient Will Be Asked to Answer The Following Questions:

  1. Have you tested positive for COVID-19?
  2. Have you been tested for COVID-19 and are still waiting to receive your lab results?
  3. Do you have any of the following issues: respiratory symptoms, fever, sore throat, coughing, or shortness of breath?
  4. Have you recently lost your sense of smell or taste?
  5. Do you have any gastrointestinal or stomach symptoms such as diarrhea or nausea?
  6. Have you experienced any of the above symptoms in the last 14 days?
  7. Have you been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19?
  8. Have you traveled outside the US by air or cruise ship in the past 14 days?
  9. Have you traveled by bus or train in the last 14 days?

(Please note: If you should answer “YES” to any of these questions, we might want to have a more in-depth discussion about the possibility of postponing your elective dental care and rescheduling for a later date. We’re happy to help you and work with your schedule.)

At Your Visit

As an extra level of protection and safety, we have enacted a routine for helping eliminate excess time spent in the waiting room. When you arrive at our Clear Lake office for your visit, we ask that you call our front desk from your vehicle. We will then ensure that all of our pre-visit sterilization routines are completed before calling you into the office. This extra step of precaution allows us to immediately welcome you into the office and walk you back to the waiting operatory room.

Advanced Sterilization and Disinfection

In light of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we’re taking extra steps in our sterilization and disinfection efforts at our dental office in Houston. We’ve started by removing all unnecessary items from the operatory and reception rooms. We’ll still be wiping all surfaces in our rooms with a high-grade disinfectant after every patient. You’ll also notice that every member of our clinical staff will be wearing face shields. They’ll also be using disposable jackets worn over top of their regular scrubs. The staff will be putting on and taking off their scrubs every day in the office for an added level of protection and prevention.

Every instrument that is not disposable is thoroughly cleaned with our high-powered ultrasonic cleaner and our autoclave. Every packet of cleaned and sanitized instruments will only be opened when you arrive in the dental chair. We ask that you have patience with us and the process as we’re adding about ten additional minutes in between each dental hygiene appointment to allow for sterilization and disinfection. Also, we’ll be adding a $15 charge for each patient visit to cover our personal protective equipment.

During this time, please know that everyone at Chet B. Hawkins, DDS is here to help you. We’re continuing our commitment to bring you dentistry based on compassion, communication, and transparency. If you have any questions about scheduling or attending a dental appointment with us, please contact us online or by phone at 281-488-4242.
